How Good Is Your Employee Social Media Policy?
Many small and medium sized firms still do not have a social media policy incorporated into their employee handbook and policies, despite social media being an integral part of the way they do business.
The Legal Partners, a Richmond based firm, holds HR Forums twice a year highlighting changes in Employment Legislation. This morning’s meeting included a very useful session on social media policies for employees.
What was clear was that companies cannot rely on an off the shelf solution for their social media policy. For example, internal use of Twitter, LinkedIn and blogs will vary across departments and from firm to firm. However, do have a well drafted set of smart phone and social networking guidelines, so all employees are clear about what is acceptable and unacceptable behaviour in and out of work.
